Lower the Cost of Living

Everywhere you look, the cost of living in Florida is climbing. Families are paying more for housing, insurance, groceries, gas, and utilities. Seniors on fixed incomes are watching their budgets stretched thinner every month. For many people in District 29, it feels like they’re doing everything right and still falling behind.

Rising costs don’t just show up in the monthly bills—they show up in hard choices. Which prescription gets filled this month? Can we afford the car repair and the electric bill? Do we cut back on food, skip a doctor’s visit, or put more on a credit card just to stay afloat?

The cost of living crisis is not an abstract problem. It’s a daily reality for working families, young people trying to get started, and older residents who want to age with dignity in the communities they helped build.

Why Are Costs Rising?

Some costs are driven by national and global forces. But many are affected by decisions made right here in Florida: decisions about insurance regulation, property taxes, development policy, and who gets tax breaks.

When powerful interests get special treatment, everyday people often end up paying more. For example:

- When poorly planned growth leads to more flooding and storm damage, insurance rates go up.

- When big corporations get generous tax breaks, local governments look elsewhere to make up the difference.

- When lawmakers put lobbyists ahead of homeowners, reforms that could help families are delayed or watered down.

Don believes the job of a state senator is to stand on the side of families and small businesses—not the special interests that profit from a system tilted in their favor.

What Don Will Fight For

Don will work to lower the cost of living by focusing on practical, people‑first priorities:

- **Tackle insurance costs.** Push for stronger oversight and reforms that protect homeowners and renters, not just big insurance companies.

- **Protect homeowners and renters.** Support policies that stabilize housing costs, encourage responsible development, and reduce the pressures that drive prices up.

- **Cut waste and giveaways.** Scrutinize special-interest tax breaks and subsidies that don’t deliver real value for taxpayers.

- **Keep basics affordable.** Prioritize legislation that helps families manage the cost of essentials—like utilities, medicine, and transportation—so they can focus on building a better future instead of just surviving month to month.

A Florida That Works for the People Who Live Here

A strong economy should lift people up, not push them out. Don believes that when families have a little breathing room—when they aren’t constantly worried about the next bill—they invest more in their kids, their homes, and their communities.

Don is running to restore balance between government and the people it serves. That means:

- Listening to residents who are feeling the squeeze

- Challenging policies that put corporate profits ahead of household budgets

- Supporting smart, targeted solutions that make everyday life more affordable

Floridians work hard. They deserve a state government that works just as hard to keep the cost of living under control and ensure that District 29 remains a place where people can build stable, secure lives.
